Time on the planet hasn’t afforded either Gage Ulmer, 11, or Nolan McNeil, 10, opportunity to gain ample fishing experience, but they both make up for it with passion for the sport.
For months, I’ve been angling toward a day when all our schedules aligned to get them on the water, and that finally happened this week.
Gage and Nolan are closest of friends, and like most boys their age, they’re ultra-competitive, so I set a little challenge before them the morning of the trip: Whichever of the two could catch the most fish would take home a brand-new Okuma DTR fishing rod.
Both these kids are entertaining, so the day would have been fun without the challenge, but with it, it was an absolute blast!
