The easiest way to catch speckled trout during the fall pattern is locating diving birds. This is where you usually find seagulls eating white shrimp being driven to the surface by a feeding frenzy of speckled trout.
Certain conditions must be met for this to happen and those are the conditions Darren Digby and Capt. Adam Shields of Black Dog Charters experienced during the afternoon of their fishing trip in late September.
They took a boat ride through the Rigolets to find several flocks of diving birds with hungry speckled trout beneath them.
Yes, there were throwbacks, white trout and even gafftops, but that didn’t prevent them from catching two keepers at a time with the double rig.
