Rain has been extremely limited in South Louisiana lately, and that’s allowed area rivers to drop and slow to a relative crawl. Whenever that happens, Independence resident Joe Lavigne loads up a tiny aluminum flat boat, drops it in a local river and catches more fish than many anglers do in a year.
Fortunately, Lavigne often invites me, as he did this week. Also tagging along was his grandson, Joseph, who has been fishing the river with his grandfather since he was 5.
Despite the recent high temps, the fishing on the Tangipahoa River was fantastic.
