Catch and cook: We found the fish

Gage Ulmer is at the age where every day that passes is another X on the calendar moving him toward getting his driver’s license.

But unlike with many young men his age, for Gage, the freedom of a car and legal permission to drive it simply opens up additional fishing spots. He’s fanatical about the sport, but until the state says he’s allowed to get behind the wheel, he’s mostly limited to neighborhood ponds within bicycle range of his Madisonville home.

That being the case, I didn’t have to ask twice when I offered to take Gage on an afternoon trip into the South Louisiana marshes.
