Every spring, I spend way too many hours searching for areas that are perfect for throwing topwater baits to speckled trout, and sometimes I find them when I’m not even really looking for them.
That happened this week.
During a trip with meager tides, I moseyed to a large lake, hoping to peck away at redfish, specks, flounder or whatever else would bite, but I noticed a copious amount of fingerling mullet, one of three key elements for having consistent success with topwater baits.
I tied on a Matrix Mullet, and the fish let me know before very long that it was a good choice.
