Catching a flathead catfish in the marshes of Louisiana is a rare event because these fish typically prefer deep, slow-moving freshwater systems like river bends, submerged log piles and holes with plenty of cover. When one turns up in a coastal canal or marsh pond, it likely means it wandered far from its typical range, making the catch not only surprising but a real trophy.
