Evinrude debuts new 135-hp outboard in E-Tech line

On Nov. 27, Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) introduced the newest horsepower model available in the Evinrude E-TEC outboard engine line-up, the 135 HO. BRP dealers have been authorized to accept orders with delivery beginning in January 2013.

Featuring a lightweight design at 418 pounds and more low-end torque than competitive 150 HP 4-stroke outboards, the Evinrude E-TEC 135 HO is tailor made for flats boats, bay boats and other hulls where the shallower draft of lighter weight and superior bottom-end power are required. It is also well-suited for any application where a superior power-to-weight ratio is a benefit.

Giant salvinia spraying begins on Lake Bistineau

Aerial spraying of giant salvinia is set to begin today on Lake Bistineau in an effort to control the aquatic vegetation that has taken over the reservoir, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries announced.

Helicopter crews will conduct the spraying over two days, with workers in airboats following up with additional spraying in areas of thick concentration among dense cypress trees, the LDWF said.[…]

Hurricane Isaac did a number on the lower Mississippi Delta, but Mother Nature has a way of repopulating an area. Immediately after the storm, reports were dismal to total devastation. Capt. Mike Gallo was faced with a bit of a dilemma on Nov. 14. After a morning spent fishing for trout with clients at The Trestles in Lake Pontchartrain, Geoghegan’s Canal just off The Rigolets and another stop in the Pearl River Basin, his group had only boated a handful of fish.

But just before noon, Gallo received a call from another of his captains who said fishing was hot at the MRGO on the south shore.

“As I’ve asked so many others before, I said, ‘Do you have planes, trains or busses to catch?’ One (client) said, ‘The only place I have to be is Thanksgiving,’” Gallo said. “So off we went. By 3:30, we had 45 trout, a dozen or so over 18 inches.”[…]
