Spots remain available for the Louisiana recreational alligator lottery, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announced. The recreational season will run from Oct. 1-31 on eight harvest zones.
These opportunities are provided on a first-come, first-served basis. To apply, go to the LDWF lottery application page and select any recreational alligator harvest zone lottery, for which you have not already been awarded, to see available opportunities.
To apply click on the Lottery Applications tab, update or create customer details similar to purchasing a license, and then submit an application for the zone in which you wish to hunt. There is a nonrefundable $50 application fee for each zone selected. Customers may select and win a harvest opportunity for more than one zone, but there will be an application fee for each zone selected.
Customers may only win one opportunity per zone, so if you have already won an opportunity in the Zone A lottery, for example, you would not be eligible to win a second opportunity but would be able to win additional opportunities in other zone lotteries that have availability.
Please note: This is for the recently adopted recreational alligator lottery and not the longstanding commercial alligator lottery harvest application that was completed in July.
Applicants must be legal Louisiana residents, 16 years of age or older, and hunter education certified to apply. You will be required to purchase a Resident Alligator Sports Hunter License ($25) before your recreational alligator hide tags can be issued. In addition to the Alligator Sports Hunter License, anyone participating in the recreational alligator harvest must also possess a Basic Hunting License.
Recreational alligator hide tags are nontransferable and may not be used on properties already allocated for commercial alligator hide tags.
