Construction begins on Bayou Sorrel boat launch improvements

$683,000 project in Iberville Parish scheduled for completion in five months, according to DNR

Construction has already begun on improvements to the Bayou Sorrel boat launch located in the heart of the Atchafalaya Basin, according to a news release from the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources.

The bulk of the $683,000 project is being covered by the DNR’s Atchafalaya Basin Annual Plan, with about $13,000 being funded by the Iberville Parish government, the release states.

The project includes a launch ramp on the north end, handicapped parking and a walkway going out to the floating pier, which will be relocated.

Iberville Parish President Mitchell Ourso Jr. said the contractor, Cajun Maritime, LLC, is expected to complete the project in about five months. The improvements were designed by SJB Group, LLC of Baton Rouge, according to the release.
