Sherburne WMA set to close due to Morganza Spillway opening

The LDWF will close Sherburne WMA on June 1 at midnight due to the opening of the Morganza Spillway, which is scheduled to be opened June 2.[…]

The Morganza Floodway has a good population of black bears and the big concern here would be for a bear escaping to high ground and causing issues for the residents.

Deer can swim and often wade out in ponds and lakes to feed on vegetation and will escape to high ground when the Morganza floodway gates are open. The best management activity is simply not to disturb them in the areas where they congregate.
