Two men cited for buying and selling quadrupeds in Iberia Parish

A Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agent cited two men on Oct. 20 for alleged buying and selling wild quadrupeds in Iberia Parish.

The agent cited Dylan Moresi, 25, of New Iberia, and Jessi S. Floyd, 41, of New Iberia, for possession of live non-game quadrupeds without a permit and buying or selling wild quadrupeds or wild birds.

The agent received a public tip on Oct. 20 about Moresi offering to sell two live flying squirrels on social media for the amount of $400. The agent made contact with Moresi at his residence and learned that Moresi had sold the two flying squirrels to Floyd for $500.

The agent seized the two squirrels from Floyd and returned them to the wild. Floyd and Moresi both admitted to the buy and selling of the flying squirrels for $500.

Possession of live non-game quadrupeds without a permit brings a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail.  Buying or selling wild quadrupeds or wild birds carries a $500 to $750 fine and 15 to 30 days in jail.

Corporal Cullom Schexnyder is the investigative agent for this case.
