Two men arrested in Jefferson Parish for drug and wildlife violations

A joint investigation between the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) and U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and Grand Isle Police Department resulted in the arrest of two men for alleged drug and wildlife violations on March 31 in Jefferson Parish.

Ross M. Adam, of Grand Isle, and Mark K. Cheramie, of Lockport, were arrested for possession of methamphetamines, possession of controlled dangerous substance with a firearm and drug paraphernalia. They were booked into the Jefferson Parish Jail.

Adam was also cited for failing to register motorboat, failing to have vessel numbers, failing to have decal on vessel, in possession of an unplugged shotgun, use of lead shot, and possession of migratory game birds during a closed season.

LDWF agents, USCG personnel and Grand Isle Police Department officers started a joint investigation on March 31 at 11:30 a.m. about two subjects on Fifi Island just north of Grand Isle in possession of drugs and illegally harvested game.

When the investigators arrived on Fifi Island they found Adam and Cheramie in possession of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and seven firearms. They were also in possession of three freshly harvested migratory game birds.

Possession of methamphetamine brings up to a $5,000 fine and two years in jail. Possession of a firearm in the presence of illegal drugs brings up to a $10,000 fine and five years in jail. Possession of drug paraphernalia carries up to a $300 fine and 15 days in jail.

Possession of migratory game birds during a closed season, using lead shot, and hunting with an unplugged gun bring up to a $950 fine and 120 days in jail for each offense. Failing to register motorboat, failing to have vessel number and failing to have decal on a vessel carry up to a $50 fine for each offense.

LDWF Sgt. Stephen Rhodes along with Grand Isle Police Department Officers and USCG personnel participated in this case.
