81 anglers honored by the Toledo Bend Lake Association
More than 80 anglers who landed 10-pound-plus bass at Toledo Bend over the last year picked up their free replicas Sunday during an awards ceremony at Cypress Bend Park.
A record 81 anglers participated in the 2014-15 season of the Toledo Bend Lunker Bass Program, which awards a free replica for all bass weighing at least 10 pounds that are tagged and released back into the reservoir.
Of the 81 lunkers caught since last May, 47 were in the 10-pound class, 28 weighed at least 11 pounds and six cracked the 12-pound mark. Eight of the biggest fish — weighing from 11.92 to 12.81 pounds — qualified for the Top 100 largest ever caught at Toledo Bend.
Three Louisiana anglers — Daniel Schexnayder of Iowa, George Herr of Many and David Vidrine of Ville Platte — caught two lunkers during the calendar year, and fishermen from Louisiana, Texas, Illinois, Iowa and Tennessee participated in the ceremony. Five of the fish caught this year had been caught and registered into the program in previous years.
This is the third year in a row the program yields a record number of bass, after 61 anglers participated in 2014 and 58 big bass were taken in 2013.
