Louisiana on IFA Kayak Tour schedule

Kayak fishing is taking the marshes and swamps of South Louisiana by storm, and that will never be more evident than on April 22 and June 17 when the IFA Kayak Tour comes to the Bayou State.

The Louisiana events, at Empire and Delacroix, respectively, will be qualifying tournaments for anglers wishing to fish the tour’s regional events. The Empire event will be at Delta Marina, and the Delacroix event will be at Sweetwater Marina.

Entry fee for each tournament is $75, and more than 100 percent is paid back.

First-place prize is a Hobie Mirage Pro Angler Kayak. Second place pays $1,000, and third place pays $500. In addition, Hobie pays $200 to the winner if he fishes the event in a Hobie kayak.

Anglers must fish two qualifying events to earn spots in the regional tournaments. In addition to the two Louisiana events, there are also qualifying tournaments in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Texas.

Anglers will be targeting both speckled trout and redfish, with the winner chosen by greatest aggregate length. For instance, a 20-inch trout and 32-inch redfish would be an aggregate of 52 inches.
