Barataria man cited for violating charter guide regulations

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a Barataria man for an alleged charter guide violation in Jefferson Parish on May 13.

Agents cited James Juhasz, 68, for failing to comply with charter boat regulations by not having a charter guide license while acting as a charter captain.

Agents were on patrol at Bayou Rigolettes in Jefferson Parish and stopped Juhasz for a compliance check. Agents asked if their trip was a charter trip and the three clients stated yes while the captain stated no. The clients then provided their three day charter fishing licenses. When agents asked Juhasz for his charter license, he was not able to provide them with one.

LDWF requires all charter fishermen to have a U.S. Coast Guard Captains license and a charter boat fishing guide license issued by the department in their possession while on the water and fishing.

Not possessing the required charter guide license carries up to a $950 fine and 120 days in jail.

Agents participating in the case are Senior Agent Gary Levron  and Agent Salvador Mangano.
