Agents cite Dequincy man for deer hunting violations in Calcasieu Parish

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a Dequincy man for alleged deer hunting violations on Nov. 6 in Calcasieu Parish.

Agents cited Ronald Owens, 62, for failing to tag deer, failing to validate deer harvest, failing to comply with harvest card requirements and gross littering.

Agents received a complaint about someone dumping deer carcasses off a bridge on Old River Road in Starks. Agents responded to the scene and found multiple deer carcasses dumped under the bridge.

During the investigation, agents were able to identify Owens as the person that dumped the carcasses off the bridge. Agents made contact with Owens and he admitted to dumping three deer carcasses and a feral hog carcass off the bridge. He also admitted to agents that he did not tag two of the three deer that he dumped.

Failing to tag deer, failing to validate deer harvest and failing to comply with harvest card requirements bring up to a $350 fine for each offense. Gross littering carries up to a $900 fine, 16 hours of community service in a litter abatement program and 30 days in jail.

Owens may also face civil restitution totaling $3,249 for the replacement value of the deer.

Agents participating in the case are Lt. Wendel Vaughn and Agent Clinton Willis.
