The Frog Giggin’ Tournament Series open to three-man teams.
The Frog Giggin’ Tournament Series will make a stop in Columbia on June 14-15.
The tournament is a team event, and is limited to the first 100 three-person teams to enter. Each team may use only one boat and team members must remain together in search of the biggest bullfrogs within a 60-mile radius of Columbia.
The bag limit is 10 frogs per person. Teams with the heaviest frog and the heaviest overall bag will receive payouts.
Youth participation is encouraged, as teams that include a member 16 years or younger will earn a “Take a Kid” bonus.
Last year in Columbia, more than $800 in prizes was awarded.
Riverbank Products President Chris Porter said he’s happy to bring series to downtown Columbia for the second consecutive year. In 2012, 31 teams competed and the biggest bag weighed more than 14 pounds. That’s a sizable hop over the 10 pounds it took to win the first stop on this year’s series held in Ashdown, Ark.
“There are a lot of places to frog around Columbia,” Porter said. “There’s the Ouachita River and there is a lot of farmland, sloughs and backwater areas.”
Porter also said the level of competition varies at each series stop.
“One of the main goals (of the event) is to get kids involved,” he said. “Last year in Columbia, the biggest frog was caught by a team of two guys and one of their daughters, who was about 7 years old. The team that won the biggest bag was three guys that were really competitive. We see both sides of the spectrum.”
But another of Porter’s goals is for everyone to “have a good time.” To that end, there will be a frog race for the kids that will take place after the weigh-in.
Early registration (prior to June 1,) costs $50 per team. After that date, cost is $60 per team. Those who pre-register will receive an event T-shirt.
