Three Winnsoboro men were cited Nov. 6 for allegedly violating multiple regulations on Tensas National Wildlife Refuge, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reported.
Thirty-one-year-old Carl Williams; James Fortenberry, 47; and 32-year-old Jonathan Thomas were cited with hunting over a baited area, leaving deer stands unattended and cutting limbs or trees on a federal refuge, LDWF said.
Thomas and Williams also were cited for using remote trail cameras on a refuge. Williams was additionally cited for using archery equipment with illegal electronic sights.
LDWF agents allegedly observed the men placing bait, and having their stands and cameras out since early October. On the opening morning of the refuge’s archery deer season (Nov. 6), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services officers and LDWF agents set up surveillance on the three baited stand locations.
The officers and agent apprehended all three subjects shortly after daylight.
If convicted, the men will face fines and penalties that will be set by a U.S. magistrate judge at their federal court appearance in Monroe to be set at a later date.
