Voting begins in Nikon Big Buck Photo, Trail Cam contests

East Feliciana Parish deer green scores 181 inches Boone & Crockett.

Voting has begun to determine the winners of the December edition of the Nikon Big Buck Photo and Trail Cam contests.

This is the final voting round for the 2011 Trail Cam Contest, while the Nikon Big Buck Photo Contest continues through the end of the season. Voting continues in both contests through Thursday (Jan. 6), with the winner announced Friday morning.

In the Nikon Big Buck Contest, four images entered into the contest in December were selected by site administrators.

User “jkcorso” made the cut with a beautiful photo of a wide-racked buck he killed on Dec. 17, the culmination of determination to kill the buck after seeing it on a trail cam photo three days before rifle season opened.

jkcorso passed up lots of deer waiting for the big deer to make a mistake, which finally happened while he was hunting out of a box stand.

“… I was watching five does on the hill side, and the early morning light and the leaf cover made it hard to see them so I looked out the window and used the binoculars to check and see if any more deer showed up, and saw him standing 90 yards away,” wrote jkcorso, who joined LouisianaSportsman.com on Dec. 21. “I placed the crosshairs on his shoulder, and he did not take another step.”

Longtime member “on a mission” also made the finals with a scenic photo showing him and a 10-point he killed in Mississippi.

“Got my personal best on (Dec. 22) still hunting public land in the Homochitto National Forest in Southwest Mississippi,” on a mission wrote.

Next on the list of potential winners is member Mike Golden, who uses his real name on the LouisianaSportsman.com forums. Golden entered a photo of a massive 8-point he took on Dec. 9.

Golden has aptly titled the photo “Bossier Parish Skyscraper” because the heavy growths of calcium extend to incredible heights above the deer’s head.

Rounding out the four Big Buck Photo Contest choices is a photo by Huntingislife49 showing a huge buck he killed near St. Francisville on Dec. 23.

“Well, after two out-of-state trips (Montana mule deer buck down; Missour archery buck and doe down), I finally scored on my first homegrown white-tailed buck of the season,” Huntingislife49 wrote in his entry. “Hunted a lock-on (stand) on a ridge top (I) haven’t been to since late blow season. Turn to see a deer coming out of a bottom on my right. Then I see this massive guy’s left G-2; that’s when I grabbed my gun ….

“What a Christmas present! Thank you, Lord!”

Site administrators also chose four finalists in the season wrap-up of the 2011 Trail Cam Contest.

User BassHunter520 posted his first report ever when he pulled an amazing trail cam photo of two bucks – the largest of which seems to using the site to bed down for the evening.

The image is titled “Getting Comfortable,” and was taken at a new lease in Amite.

New user ADelcambre made the finals with a photo he titled “Is it Yogi Bear?” that shows a black bear apparently feasting on corn at a feeder.

“This bear sure is eating good at our corn buffet!” ADelcambre wrote.

“Hambone51” entered a photo of a huge 10-point taken by his Wildgame camera the evening of Dec. 14.

User “rougebacala2” is the final entry to make the voting round.

rougebacala2 entered a neat photo showing a doe and yearlings sharing a feeding area with a couple of foxes.

“These ladies are not too concerned about the foxy visitors,” he wrote.
