Free event will be held at Idlewild Research Station beginning at 8 a.m.
The South Louisiana Branch of the Quality Deer Management Association is holding a free seminar this Saturday, April 29, in Clinton on a wide variety of hunting topics, including how to butcher meat to comply with newly-implemented carcass importation restrictions.
“You’re also going to learn how to trap coyotes to manage predators, as well as the latest and greatest research on feral pigs from LSU,” said Darren Boudreaux, QDMA Louisiana State Chapter President. “Plus you’ll learn how to cape your deer and prepare European mounts, as well as how to debone meat.
“Both of those things are to help you comply with the new carcass importation ban that’s in effect now, so we’re basically going to teach you how to comply with that new rule.”
The event will begin at 8 a.m. at the Idlewild Research Station, located at 4419 Idlewild Road in Clinton.
Additionally, Dave Moreland, retired deer program leader for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, is scheduled to do a seminar on deer browse.
“We’re going to go out in the woods to see different plants that deer browse on, and how you can do a browse survey on your property,” Boudreaux said.
The event, which is co-sponsored by the LSU Ag Center and the LDWF, includes a complimentary lunch.
