Hillebrandt’s buck pending No. 2 typical white-tail in Mississippi Magnolia Records
A Lake Charles hunter downed a gigantic 9-point on Giles Island the day after Christmas that is currently the pending No. 2 typical white-tail in the Mississippi Magnolia Records.
On her first-ever trip to the hunting club near Ferriday, Cheri Hillebrandt, 26, took an 80-yard shot with her .270 and drilled the 9-pointer, which green-scored a whopping 184 inches Boone & Crockett.
It was a warm day with unseasonably warm temperatures, but her guide, Barry “B.L.” Loftin, spied the buck moving through a thicket almost 400 yards away around 4:30 p.m.
“I first saw him when he came out of the thicket from about my 1 o’clock,” Hillebrandt said. “Whenever I saw him, I said, ‘Oh my god.’ I wouldn’t really look at him that good. Once I saw him, I refused to stare at him because I knew I would get really nervous and start shaking uncontrollably like I already was.
“I think everybody in the stand was kind of holding their breath, hoping he’d make it all the way in.”
