Subject admitted to shooting a deer on Sept. 1, LDWF says
A 64-year-old Alexandria man was cited for taking deer in a closed season during illegal hours with an illegal weapon, and possessing an illegally taken animal, in connection with an investigation near Alexandria.
According to a press release from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Boyd Q. Martin admitted to enforcement agents that he shot a deer before daylight with a .22 caliber rifle and a headlight on his way to go fishing Sept. 1.
Martin said he took the hindquarters off the deer, and then dragged the carcass into the woods. Agents seized the venison, the release states.
Hunting deer during a closed season and hunting deer during illegal hours brings a $900 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail. Possession of an illegally taken deer brings a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail. Hunting deer with an illegal weapon carries a $250 to $500 fine and 90 days in jail, according to the release.
Martin may also face civil restitution totaling $1,624 for the replacement value of the illegally taken deer, the release states.
