A Solitude man was arrested in connection with the theft of ATVs in an investigation that included the recovery of 10 ATVs reported stolen in recent weeks, The Advocate reported yesterday (Dec. 21).

Ernest Butler Jr., 23, was booked with three counts of felony theft in connection with three ATVs he allegedly offered to sell an undercover officer, and more counts could be added as the investigation continues, The Advocate quoted West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s officials saying.

Butler was arrested after an undercover buy was arranged and the man apparently bolted when meeting the undercover officer at a rural location. A Louisiana State Police chase team allegedly trailed the man using a bloodhound to the back door of his residence.

West Feliciana Sheriff J. Austin Daniel told the newspaper that the investigation, which has been under way for more than three weeks, resulted in the recovery of eight of 11 ATVs reported stolen in the parish during the past month. Included in the recovery were one bike reported stolen in Woodville, Miss., and another reported taken in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Additional arrests are expected, the newspaper reported.
