Help identify ethanol-free gasoline stations

Ethanol poses a real threat to marine engines and all gasoline-powered lawn tools, so it is important for boat owners and homeowners to be able to find fuel stations providing ethanol-free gas.

To find stations that apparently sell ethanol-free gas (based on the absence of the legally required ethanol warning decal), click HERE. A list of blogs about the ethanol issue can be found HERE.

While the database (built by LaPlace’s Alton “Pete” Landry) lists more than 150 stations that apparently sell 100 percent gasoline, we need your help in identifying more gas stations selling non-ethanol gasoline.

LouisianaSportsman.com is asking anyone identifying a gas station that does not display the “Contains up to 10%  Ethanol” decal on their fuel pumps (it is Louisiana State law that they must have this sticker on each pump that sells alcohol containing gasoline), to e-mail Landry the following information (due to the LouisianaSportsman.com searchable database, it is important that all this information be provided):

  • State where gas station is located (Louisiana and Mississippi Coast only please)
  • Parish/County where gas station is located
  • City where gas station is located
  • Name of gas station (i.e., Exxon, Shell, Chevron, or non-branded )
  • Address of station or approximate location (please describe as clearly as possible so others can easily find it)

ALSO, when you locate an ethanol free station, please ask the station manager or supervisor who his gasoline distributor is. If you can get the distributor’s name and phone number, please send that information to Landry. That way he can contact the distributor and get the list of all stations that distributor supplies with ethanol free gasoline.

Please send this information to  “Pete” Landry at way2gopete@yahoo.com using the title “Non-ethanol gas station” in your e-mail subject line.

ALSO, if you learn that a station that is currently on the Ethanol Free Gas Station list has converted to selling ethanol gas, please e-mail Landry with this information so the station can be removed from the list.

Landry will compile a spreadsheet of these non-ethanol stations and publish regular updates here.

Note: If you suspect a gas station may be selling E-10 gas but does NOT display the “Contains up to 10% ethanol” sticker on the pump, call the Louisiana State Director of Fuels Program Richard Williams at 225.922.1380 and file a complaint. Williams will send an inspector to test the station’s fuel and, if the fuel is indeed ethanol gas and does not have pump decal, issue the station owner a written warning. If the warning decals are not installed in a week, the station can be fined $500/pump/day.

This is a short-term answer to the problem until we can, hopefully, convince the state Legislature and the governor to require gas stations to offer non-alcohol regular gasoline again. I have asked my St. John Parish state senator and representative to introduce such a bill in the April 2010 session of the Louisiana Legislature.

I encourage you to make the same request of your legislative representatives.
