Navy vet to finish swimming Mississippi River Friday afternoon at Head of Passes

Volunteer boaters needed to transport Gold Star Family members to finish line

Chris Ring’s 2,350 mile swim down the Mississippi River is scheduled to end tomorrow afternoon at Mile Marker 0 at Head of Passes south of Venice, and event organizers are seeking volunteer boaters to transport spectators out to witness the completion of his journey.

The Navy combat veteran has been swimming between 14 and 20 miles per day, six days a week, for the last 181 days for Legacies Alive to honor fallen heroes and raise awareness for their Gold Star Families.

Boaters will meet at Venice Marina and are scheduled to leave between 12 and 1 p.m. Friday to transport Gold Star Families to the finish line at Head of Passes.

For more information, or if you are interested in volunteering with your boat, contact Rob Brigance at 615-268-1437.
