More road closures on Grassy Lake W.M.A. due to high water

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has temporarily closed the Murphy’s Ditch crossing near the Red River Bay on Grassy Lake Wildlife Management Area (WMA) due to flooding from the Red River. This road closure is in addition to the May 14 closure of Cas Cas Road on Grassy Lake WMA in Avoyelles Parish.

Camps north of the Murphy’s Ditch Crossing will only be accessible by boat until water levels recede. Also, camp owners impacted by the Cas Cas Road closure can still detour through the Brouillette community via Highway 452.

Floodwaters are monitored daily and additional closures are anticipated prior to crest. Grassy Lake WMA visitors and camp owners may check with the Opelousas office for updated closures at 337-948-0255.

The temporary road closures were implemented for public safety and to minimize damage to the roadway. The road will be re-opened once floodwaters recede.

There are no big or small game hunting seasons currently open within Grassy Lake WMA.
