LDWF, St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Coast Guard conduct search-and-rescue mission.
A 25-year-old Metairie hunter who failed to show up for a duck hunt this morning (Nov. 13) was located this afternoon, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries reported.
Daniel Madere was apparently scheduled to meet a buddy at a duck-hunting blind off Grand Lake in St. Bernard Parish but didn’t arrive at 5:15 a.m. as scheduled, the LDWF said. Madere’s hunting partner doubled back to look for him, but couldn’t find him, the agency reported.
After a brief search of the area, Madere’s duck blind partner called authorities to assist in the search, the LDWF said.
LDWF enforcement agents were joined in the search by St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies and the U.S. Coast Guard.
Madere’s 16-foot flat-bottom boat sank in Grand Lake in rough water, the LDWF said. Madere was wearing a personal flotation device (PFD), and was able to grab another PFD to hold as he made his way to the bank, the news release revealed.
Search and rescue personnel were able to get dry clothes for Madere and transported him back to the launch near Delocroix, where a medical staff was waiting to check his condition.
