Louisiana Sportsman Show opens in Superdome today

Get unbelievable prices all weekend long on deer and duck hunting supplies, ATVs, fishing equipment and more

The Louisiana Sportsman Show presented by Reed’s Metals — the biggest hunting and fishing show in the state — is returning to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome starting this afternoon at 3 p.m.

Featuring a big buck contest, celebrity speakers, the Puglia’s Sporting Goods Discount Zone, duck boats galore and lots of fun for the kids, the show is an encore to the hugely successful event held in Gonzales last March.

“First of all, we’re going to continue to have the Gonzales show every spring. But after Katrina, we moved the show, and figured now is the time to return to the Dome,” said Jack Fisher, show director. “Also, we’ve been working with the Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) for years, and they have decided to hold their National Convention in conjunction with the Sportsman Show in New Orleans.

“QDMA is bringing nationally acclaimed seminars, exhibits, and celebrity guests.”

Show hours are today from 3 to 9 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission for kids 5 and under is free, children 6 to 12 are $5 and adults 13 and older are $10.

Come out to the Cabela’s Louisiana Sportsman Big Buck Contest to see some of the biggest deer killed from the 2016-17 season. It’s free to enter, and mounts may be dropped off beginning this afternoon through Saturday at 6 p.m. The mount (or antlers) must remain on the Big Buck Wall until the contest ends Sunday afternoon. (Bucks entered in any previous Louisiana Sportsman Big Buck Contest are not eligible to win category prizes, but are eligible for a $250 Puglia’s Sporting Goods gift certificate awarded through a random drawing from all entrants.)

Chag’s Sporting Goods will anchor the archery section of the show with the Sportsman Archery Center, where manufacturers from Mathews, Ten Point Crossbows and ScentLok will be on hand to answer all of your questions and show you the latest equipment available.

Winchester Deadly Passion’s Melissa Bachman will be at the QDMA booth Saturday afternoon from 1:30 to 2:30, and fishing seminars featuring Chris Holmes, Sam Barbera, C.T. Williams, Devin Denman and Clyde Folse will take place all weekend long.

Other celebrities scheduled to appear at the show or the QDMA convention include John Godwin and Justin Martin of TV’s Duck Commander, RJ and Jay Paul Molinere of Swamp People, NASCAR’s Ward Burton and many more.

There also will be a huge duck boat section on the floor of the Dome, featuring manufacturers like Pro-Drive, Gator Tail, Go Devil, Mud Buddy, Cottonmouth Boats and Gator Trax. And Team Haydel will be on hand showcasing new duck calls for this fall.

Plus, there’s fun for the whole family — the Kids’ Zone features seminars and casting clinics geared for youngsters, and the Fetch-N-Fish tank will have educational talks on dog training as well as long-distance dog jumps into a 41-foot tank filled with largemouth bass.

The show floor will be packed with exhibitors displaying and selling their fishing and hunting goods — many at steeply discounted prices. If you’re looking for an ATV or utility vehicle for the fall, come by and check out a huge selection of gas, electric and diesel models from manufacturers like Yamaha, Honda, John Deere, Kubota, Polaris, Kawasaki, Arctic Cat, Suzuki and more.

And don’t miss the Puglia’s mega-booth, where the retailer will be having the biggest truckload sale in their history featuring fishing and hunting goods for sale at bottom-dollar prices.
