Hust sentenced to life in prison

Shooter of Sgt. Scott Bullitt sentenced to three life terms without parole, LDWF says

The Monroe man convicted of shooting LDWF Sgt. Scott Bullitt was sentenced to life in prison today in Ouachita Parish.

According to a news release from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, 4th District Court Judge Scott Leehy sentenced Jarrod Hust, 29, to three life terms in prison without the benefit of parole for two counts of attempted first degree murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Hust had been found guilty on Dec. 3, 2015.

“We are thankful this case is resolved to give Sgt. Bullitt and his family some closure and that the shooter will spend the rest of his life behind bars where he belongs,” Col. Joey Broussard, head of the LDWF Enforcement Division, said.  “We also want to thank the prosecutors and judge for securing the stiffest penalties possible so that Hust won’t have the chance to commit another violent crime.”

Bullitt and another agent had stopped a vehicle near the Wham Brake Boat Launch on the Russell Sage Wildlife Management Area on May 21, 2015. During the stop, Hust shot Bullit and fired at another agent before fleeing into the woods. He was captured about 11 p.m. that night, the release states.

Bullitt underwent surgery on May 26, and is still rehabbing from his injuries. He has not yet returned to duty as a LDWF agent, according to the release.
