Current LDWF law enforcement training facility to receive $2 million upgrade

Site prep to begin shortly on Waddill Outdoor Education Center in Baton Rouge

The training site for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ enforcement division will be upgraded with a $2 million multi-purpose facility, according to a press release.

The Waddill Outdoor Education Center on Flannery Road in Baton Rouge is where wildlife agent cadets train and continuing education courses are held, but the facility is outdated and no longer meets the needs of the enforcement division, the release states.

“The new facility will provide additional classroom space and dormitory space,” LDWF Col. Jeff Mayne said. “We’ll be able to house an additional 48 law enforcement officers for in-service training that includes advanced boating crash incident investigation, DWI detection and continuing education coursework.”

Federal funding for the project will be provided through NOAA’s Joint Enforcement Agreement and the U.S. Coast Guard, with additional funding coming from the department’s Conservation Fund, the release states.

Site prep will begin this year, and project completion is anticipated in 2015, according to the release.
