‘coryharris’ wins Big Bass Contest; ‘slickhead-slayuh,’ ‘rockhead30’ take turkey contests

LouisianaSportsman.com users named the winners of the Big Bass and Turkey Photo & Video contests over the weekend. Each winner will receive an Official Sportsman package.

The Sportsman package includes a $25 Outdoor Store coupon and a free one-year subscription to Louisiana Sportsman.

In addition, Big Bass Photo Contest winner Cory Harris earned a bonus: A Shimano Caenan 100 reel valued at $90 donated by Shimano.

Harris (who goes by the screen name ‘coryharris’ on the LouisianaSportsman.com reports forum) earned the win in the Big Bass Contest with a photo of a 25-inch Lacassine NWR bass.

Harris landed the huge bass after earlier catching what was the biggest largemouth of his life.

“When I set the hook, it was solid as a rock,” he explained. “The fish was deep in the hydrilla and I just held tension. All of a sudden the fish came loose from the grass and went crazy. It came up, jumped, and then surged under the boat. I was afraid it was going to break me off, but my line held true.”

“We just stared at the fish and each other and couldn’t believe that we had boated two monsters in one day. The fish was 25 inches long, and as with the first fish, NO SCALE! So we took pics and let her swim. We decided it couldn’t get any better so we headed home, still in shock!”

In second was Jeremy Pefferkorn, who goes by “fishersofthebass (Jeremy P). Tyler Stewart (aka “tylerstewart”) finished third, and Elliott Boudreaux (aka “Elliott B”) was in fourth.

In the Turkey Photo Contest, Will Stevens (or “slickhead-slayuh”) took the top honors for the photo of his St. Helena tom that sported an 8 ½-inch beard and 7/8-inch spurs.

Joel Brannan and Terry Daigle tied for second with their photos.

In the Turkey Video Contest, “rockhead30” (known to his family and friends as Byron Styron) easily won the Sportsman prize pack for his “opening morning gobbler” vid.
