Caminada Redfish Rodeo on tap

The annual Caminada Redfish Rodeo is scheduled for Sept. 27-29 in Grand Isle.

The rodeo will be headquartered at Sand Dollar Marina on the eastern end of the island.

The event has become known as the “Biggest Little Rodeo in the South,” and is known for its family oriented atmosphere.

Seven prizes per day will be awarded, with other category awards for most of the inshore species, organizer Tommy Hollier said.

There also will be a children’s category that allows kids to enter pretty much any species of fish they catch.

“They can enter pinfish, croakers, gaftops, whatever,” Hollier said.

In addition, there will be $3,000 in cash prizes given away during the event.

Entry is $20 per person, and includes a feed on Sept. 29.

“We take all the fish that were caught and make a couvillion,” Hollier said.

Proceeds will be used to fund a Grand Isle High School scholarship and to local charities.
