$9,000 reward offered in Acadia Parish whooping crane shooting

Two birds were shot and killed south of Rayne on May 20, LDWF says

Up to a $9,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case of two endangered whooping cranes that were shot and killed just south of Rayne off of Highway 35 on May 20.

According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the two cranes killed had been released into the wild only last December. The LDWF has released 75 whooping cranes since 2011, and is currently tracking 38 animals.

Anyone with information regarding the case should call the Louisiana Operation Game Thief hotline at 1-800-442-2511 or use LDWF’s tip411 program.

To use the tip411 program, residents can text LADWF and their tip to 847411, or simply download the “LADWF Tips” app.  Both the hotline and the tip411 are monitored 24 hours a day, and informants can remain anonymous.
