Boater’s body recovered in Little Bayou Pigeon

Accident happened Friday evening, LDWF says

A 48-year-old Bayou Pigeon man died in a weekend boating accident in Iberia Parish, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Malcolm Perera died in Little Bayou Pigeon after his boat capsized Friday evening around 9 p.m., the release states.

A passenger in the boat said Perera lost control of the vessel, and both men were ejected into the water. The passenger made it to shore and found an abandoned camp in the area, then flagged down a passing vessel Saturday morning around 5:30 a.m.

Agents with the LDWF were notified around 6 a.m., and Perera’s body was recovered near the capsized boat Saturday morning around 9:30.

Neither man was wearing a life jacket when the accident occurred, the release states.
