Western-most Louisiana fishing closure lifted

The western-most fishing closure, which prohibited fishing in the state-owned offshore waters in Iberia and Vermilion parishes, was lifted today, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fishieres announced earlier.

The latest action reverses a closure put in place May 18 after oil was found on a small section of Marsh Island’s southern shoreline. The agency said no oil has been reported from the area since the closure was enacted.

Now open are all state outside waters extending seaward of the inside/outside shrimp line from South Point of Marsh Island at 91 degrees 45 minutes 48 seconds west longitude westward to the eastern shore of Freshwater Bayou at 92 degrees 18 minutes 27 seconds west longitude.

All other closures remain in place.
