LDWF believes boater lost control and struck a tree on the Blood River

A 68-year-old Springfield man died Thursday on the Blood River after apparently losing control of his boat and striking a tree, according to a press release.

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents discovered the body of Emil J. Durbin near his heavily-damaged 16-foot boat after 7 p.m. Thursday evening.

According to the release, agents believe Durbin lost control, struck a tree on the bank and was ejected from the boat.

Adam Einck, spokesman for LDWF, said Durbin was not wearing a life jacket.

Durbin had gone boating about 11 a.m. on Thursday, the release states.
