Pointe-aux-Chenes hit with closure, western-most state offshore waters reopen again

The Red River is like an entirely different waterway than it was just two years ago. Here’s how to catch bass there this summer.

More fishing closures were put in place in Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes this evening (May 28), while the state offshore waters between Marsh Island’s South Point and Freshwater Bayou reopened, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced.

Both actions were effective just before 6:30 p.m. Click here for a map of current state closures, while a closer view of a portion of the newest closures can be seen here.

The Lafourche and Terrebonne closure include waters south of 29 degrees, 30 minutes, 00 seconds north latitude from the western shore of Bayou Lafourche westward to the eastern shore of Bayou Terrebonne and south to 29 degrees, 21 minutes, 00 seconds north latitude.

The new closure, which closes most if not all of Pointe-aux-Chenes Wildlife Management Area, was enacted because of “confirmed reports of oil,” the agency reported.

At the same time, LDWF officials reopened the state offshore waters between South Point of Marsh Island at 91 degrees 45 minutes 48 seconds west longitude westward to the eastern shore of Freshwater Bayou at 92 degrees 18 minutes 27 seconds west longitude.

All other closures remain in effect.
