LDWF staff updated the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission with the final red snapper preliminary landing estimates for 2020. LA Creel, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ near real-time landings data collection program, indicates that 777,564 pounds or 99 percent of Louisiana’s 2020 annual private recreational allocation of 784,332 pounds have been harvested during 2020 red snapper season.
The private recreational red snapper season began May 22 in both state and federal waters. This season ran weekends only (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and Memorial Day) through Thursday, August 13, and was reopened September 4-7 for the Labor Day weekend.
“We thank our anglers for their participation in our LA Creel surveys,” said LDWF Secretary Jack Montoucet. “With their help, we can continue maximizing fishing opportunities within our harvest quota.”
