New species added to Louisiana State Fish Records

Longnose gar, channel mullet are newest additions to the state record book, LOWA says.

The Louisiana State Fish Records are being expanded by two species, record-book keeper Louisiana Outdoor Writers Association announced today.

Catches of longnose gar (Lepisosteus osseus) and southern kingfish can be submitted to the record book beginning on March 1, LOWA said.

Southern kingfish are more commonly called “channel mullet.”
