• Oct. 9-11 — Louisiana Reel Recovery Retreat, a three-day, two-night retreat for men with cancer that helps the recovery process through the sport of fly fishing. Sponsored by Acadiana Fly Rodders and Reel Recovery, a national organization. White Lake Lodge near Gueydan. Registration limited to 14 men. • Oct. 18-20 — 15th annual Southern Rodmakers Gathering, Mountain Home, Ark. The largest gathering in the South for bamboo rodmakers, collectors and anglers features demos, programs, casting, vendors and more. Registration is $60, and includes all activities and meals. • Oct. 20 — 10th annual Red River National Wildlife Refuge Festival, 555 Sunflower Road in Bossier City. 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Free admission. Fly tying demos, fly casting, birds of prey, nature walks, fishing games, hayride refuge tours, exhibitors and much more. Free catfish lunch at noon. • Nov. 4-6 — Southern Rendezvous. Annual gathering of fly tiers from Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and elsewhere. North Toledo Bend State Park in Zwolle.
