Star introduces Seagis rods, listens to anglers, introduces updated models

Star Rods introduced the Seagis Series of inshore fishing rods earlier this year. Seagis Series rods come with a split-cork grip and all the best hardware. They have Fuji SK2 split reel seats and Fuji K-Series Tangle Free Guides with Alconite rings – all the lightest and newest stuff.

This selection of components and the Seagis blank combined to make the Seagis Series the lightest rods in their class and gave them the highest strength to weight ratio. They rods weighed a mere 3.5 to 4.3 ounces across the line. The fast tip action gave them superior casting distance too and they were an immediate hit.

Some fishermen, especially kayak anglers, wanted all the features of the Seagis Series rods, but with a shorter butt section. With kayak anglers, the longer split-grip butt occasionally hit their PFD.

Star Rods, headquartered in Morehead City, N.C., listened, and at the ICAST show in Orlando, Fla., this summer, they introduced the second Seagis Series line of 10 fast tip models. The rod blanks are the same and include all the high-quality and lightweight components. The difference is the new rods have full-cork grips, and the butts are two inches shorter. With full-cork grips, the rods gain approximately half an ounce and balance properly with the shorter butts.  The new models cover the same lengths and line weights as the originals.

Seagis Series rods are available in 6-foot-6, 7-foot and 7-foot-6 models with line ratings for 4 to 10 pounds up to 10 to 20 pounds. The split-grip rods are in tackle shops now, and the full-cork grips will be available by late fall. Star Rods can be seen at www.seastriker.com/starrods.
