Louisiana company makes a better shrimp

Every trout angler knows that shrimp imitations catch fish. The slow, horizontal fall is too much for any hungry speckled trout to resist.

What many trout anglers don’t like, however, is the lack of durability of these lures.

Until now.

Louisiana-based Endura Lures has come up with a technique to mold their plastic baits around the hooks, so they’re almost impossible for a fish to pull down the hook shaft.

“With most other plastic shrimp, the hook comes right out,” Pierre Escuriex said. “You get one hit, and the hook will no longer stay in. You’re always having to rebait.”

The lure company also uses a harder plastic to help the baits stay together longer. In fact, at March’s Louisiana Sportsmen’s Show & Festival, Escuriex had on display an Endura Shrimp that had produced 64 speckled trout. Although the lure had some definite tooth marks along its length, it was still firmly embedded on the hook.

The shrimp-imitation lures come in eight colors, all of which are outfitted with 3D eyes.
