Lake Pontchartrain Causeway facts

• The Causeway is 23.83 miles long.

• The twin bridges are supported by 9,500 concrete stanchions.

• The navigation channel under the bridge is located 8 miles from the north shore.

• The western span was the original Causeway.

• It opened in 1969, and had one lane going in each direction.

• It has always been a toll bridge.

• Unlike the I-10 Twin Span bridge, the Causeway was mostly undamaged by Hurricane Katrina.
