Biloxi shrimper cited for alleged TED violations in Breton Sound

More than 2,000 pounds of shrimp seized in the investigation, LDWF says

Enforcement agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries cited a Biloxi shrimper for allegedly having illegal turtle exclusion devices onboard his boat in Breton Sound on Tuesday, according to a press release.

Canh Huu Nguyen, 37, was ticketed after agents measured two TEDS installed in the vessel’s trawls and allegedly found them out of compliance with state and federal regulations, the release states.

The TEDs were seized, along with approximately 2,100 pounds of shrimp which were sold to the highest bidder, according to the release.

Trawling with illegal TEDs brings a $100 to $350 fine and up to 60 days in jail, the release states.
