DA: Burnham to serve sentence without probation, parole or suspension of sentence
A 44-year-old commercial fisherman on Grand Isle was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Friday after his sixth conviction for DWI, according to a press release from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
Rockey Burnham was found guilty by a jury on April 20 of fourth-offense or more DWI, and was sentenced on Friday by Judge Conn Regan in 24th Judicial District Court, the release states.
Agents with the LDWF assisted in the original call relating to the most recent charges, when Burnham was accused by Jefferson Parish prosecutors of colliding his boat into several other watercraft and a shrimp dock on Grand Isle on April 28, 2015, according to the release.
Prosecutors said he was under the influence of diazepam, nordiazepam and methamphetamine at the time, the release states.
Burnham performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests administered by the LDWF agents at the accident scene, and was arrested for DWI and transported to the Grand Isle police station.
Burnham will serve his prison sentence without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence, according to the Jefferson Parish district attorney’s office.
