A ‘how-to-tie’ guide for some of the most popular fishing knots
EDITOR’S NOTE: With fishing action in full swing this summer, we thought now would be a great time to highlight a series on several basic fishing knots that can be used by a variety of anglers.
Last week we highlighted the Berkley braid knot.
Today we tackle the double uni knot, which is a simple and strong way to connect two lines. And it’s great for attaching mono or fluorocarbon leaders to braided main line.
Remember to moisten your line before pulling tight, especially for fluorocarbon that’s easily damaged by heat from friction.
How to tie a double uni-knot:
1. Place the ends of the two lines next to each other.
2. Wrap the leader line four to five times.
3. Wet line and pull the first knot tight.
4. Wrap the end of the mainline four times if tying mono to mono. (Wrap a total of eight turns if tying braid to mono or fluorocarbon.)
5. Wet line and pull the second knot tight.
6. Make sure the line is wet between the two knots. Then grasp both the leader and main line, and pull tight.
