Boat reportedly struck jetty, ejecting the man.
A man was killed and a woman injured during a boating accident on the Red River shortly after midnight (July 19), according to news reports.
The Bossier City Police were notified of the accident shortly after 8 a.m. this morning, the Shreveport Times reported.
The agency’s spokesman Mark Natale said responders found a woman with injuries requiring hospitalization.
The woman, identified by the Louisiana Departmetn of Wildlife and Fisheries as 51-year-old Teresa Revia of Shreveport, told authorities that she and a man had headed out on the river after midnight, hitting a jetty on the Caddo Parish side of the waterway, Natale told newspaper.
The man, identified by LDWF as 48-year-old Kimberly Webb of Shreveport, reportedly fell in the water, with the boat drifting farther downstream before pushing up on the Bossier Parish bank. The woman then found the man who reported the accident.
Webb’s body was found later near the jetty where the accident occurred.
According to the LDWF, Webb and Revia launched a 15-foot boat from the Teague Parkway boat launch around midnight to go fishing with Webb as the operator of the boat.
After they finished fishing, they were returning to the launch when they apparently struck an object in the river, throwing Webb from the boat, the LDWF said.
LDWF officials believe at this time that Webb and Revia were wearing life jackets and alcohol use is not suspected., but the accident is still under investigation.
