Socked in again – Bassmaster Classic on hold for second time

Bassmaster Classic anglers lost just more than an hour yesterday to dense fog, and the same situation faced them when they arrived at Bayou Segnette State Park early this morning (Feb. 19). Finally, B.A.S.S. officials implemented a second fog delay.

“There’s just as much fog today as yesterday,” Luling’s Bruce McDonald told LouisianaSportsman.com by phone. “I’m looking at the (Lapalco Boulevard) bridge right now, and I cannot even see it.

“And I’m at the end of the dock closest to the bridge.”

The delay has the most impact on the anglers making the long run to Venice, but it’s less likely to have an impact on the top three anglers – who stayed close to the landing to drag healthy bags of bass from Lake Cataouatche’s Tank Pond.

California’s Aaron Martens sits in the lead with 20 pounds, 7 ounces, but is barely more than a pound ahead of two proven pros – Arkansas’ Scott Rook (19-6) and three-time Bassmaster Classic champion Kevin VanDam (19-3).

The three anglers apparently are pretty much circling the same waters, often fishing boat to boat, a situation that was discussed in the press conference that followed the weigh-in.

The start of the second day of competition will be announced as soon as possible, and daily coverage will continue on the dedicated Bassmaster Classic Updates page. Subscribe to the free RSS feed to receive instant notifications of new stories added to this special section.
