rbwilbanks wins March Big Bass Contest

Big bass moving up to spawn

Ron Wilbanks’ photo of his 10 ¾-pound Toledo Bend bass was declared the winner of the March Big Bass Contest by LouisianaSportsman.com users.

Wilbanks, who goes by the screen name ‘rbwilbanks’ on the site’s reports forum, will receive a $15 gift coupon for the online Sportsman Outdoor Store, and can use it to purchase Official Sportsman Gear.

“A cold front pushed through that night, and it was about 45 degrees (that morning),” Wilbanks said of March 6. “She fell for a Carolina-rigged worm in 5 feet of water.”

The double-digit catch, which was the largest bass Wilbanks ever landed, left the angler pretty ragged.

“I was shaking so bad I had to sit down in my boat and get myself back together,” he explained. “Man, what a rush.”

Coming in second was Jared LeBlue (aka “rattle”), who entered a photo of an 8-pounder caught while he and his wife were practicing for a tournament.

“… (W)e hadn’t been on the water for 20 minutes when I caught a nice 4-pound fish,” LeBlue said. “About 10 casts later, I caught this 8-pounder.”

Andy Yeager (aka “andy52887”) placed third with a photo of two Caddo Lake brutes that totaled 14 pounds.

“I had five bites total, and boated four …,” Yeager said of the after-work trip. “My total was 27 (pounds) plus with two 7(-pound) plus kicker fish.”
