First prize of $10,000 guaranteed, 100-boat field to pay out almost $28,000.
The Louisiana Sportsman Open bass tournament – South Louisiana’s richest tournament – is just more than a week away, with the first-place team walking away with $10,000 and the total payout based on 100 boats reaching nearly $28,000.
If 100 teams sign up for the Louisiana Sportsman Open, the tournament will pay out a total of $27,375 – which is $7,375 more than total entry fees.
“We want this to be the richest tournament in South Louisiana,” Louisiana Sportsman’s Tony Taylor said. “It’s a great opportunity for anglers to come out and earn some real money.”The Louisiana Sportsman Open will be held March 10-11, with boats launching from Doiron’s Landing in Stephensville (either side of the levee) and weigh-ins taking place at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in conjunction with the Louisiana Sportsmen’s Show.
The top 20 teams will receive payouts, with the first-place prize of $10,000 guaranteed.

Entry fee is $200 per team, with an optional $20 big-bass pot. Teams are limited to no more than two anglers.
A mandatory captains’ meeting will be held from 6-8 p.m.on March 7 at Cabela’s in Gonzales. Exceptions will be made only if prior arrangements are made.
Participants will launch from Doiron’s Landing in Stephensville, and can fish either the Lake Verret area or the Atchafalaya Basin.
Each team may weigh no more than five bass per day.
Fisher said anglers must launch and return to the same side of the levee – either on the Lake Verret side or at Doiron’s launch inside the Basin.
Anglers can launch and head to their waters beginning at 4:30 a.m., but cannot begin fishing until a time to be determined at a later date.
The teams must check in at the dock no later than 2:30 p.m. on the first day of competition and no later than 1:30 p.m. on the second day.
Any team missing those deadlines will be disqualified.
Boaters will have to trailer to Lamar-Dixon in time for the weigh-in. Scales close at 5 p.m. on March 10 and at 3:30 p.m. on the following day.
